LÕUNA-EESTI LOODUS JA INTSIKURMU MUUSIKAFESTIVAL

Tere!

Augusti alguses leidis aset meie teine grupisõit.

Meie lugu on kajastatud kaa septembrikuu Ma olen Jalgrattur ajakirjas!

NEW! TOP-TUBE BAG BY BIKEPACKING ESTONIA

Hello!

Our first 100 top-tube bags are ready! We are the first company in Estonia who designs and makes bikepacking equipment. We spent months to find the right sewing company who would satisfy our needs and demands. Since quality is our top priority, testing different prototypes in order to find the best ones took most of the developing process.

Our new top-tube bag is perfect for all kinds of different bikes. Take it off-road or cruise around the city! It has enough space for small items like wallets, battery banks, smartphones, snacks etc. All our bags are made from PVC 600 fabric – it is waterproof and also keeps the bag in good shape. The stitches are strong and they are designed to be waterproof. Our zippers are YKK (waterproof). There’s a small slit on the front side of the bag for USB cables and wires for lights or GPS devices. This is small enough to keep water from getting in. The bag has two velcro fastenings to fit different frames. The front velcro has a higher and lower position to adjust to the stem and it is sewn to the bag. Our top-tube bag has a lining on the bottom to keep fragile things safe.

Our bags are designed and made in Estonia!

You can order bags on our website. If you live in Estonia or nearby countries it is possible to order them from City Bike e-shop. It’s possible to order bags in two different color schemes: camo and black!

UUS TOP-TUBE JALGRATTAKOTT

EST
Alumine velcro kinnitus on õmmeldud tugevalt koti külge. Esimest kinnitust saab kasutada kahes asendis, et kohanduda erinevate ratta tüüpidega. Sisemine vooder on alumisel küljel, see välistab õrnade asjade põrutuse vastu rattaraami.

Meie tooteid saab osta City Bike’i esindusest (Vene 33, Tallinn). Samuti on alati võimalik tooteid tellida otse meilt.

Telli oma lemmikkott siit!

RAAMIKOTT SCOTT GENIUSELE

Valmistasime raamikoti Scott Genius’ele. Sellel rattal on raamil amort, mistõttu on sellele raske sobivat varustust leida. Aitasime ühe ratturi hädast välja ja leidsime koos hea lahenduse.

Kott on valmistatud PVC 600 materjalist ning varustatud kvaliteetsete YKK tõmblukkude ja tugevate velcro kinnitustega. Sellise koti hinnaks on umbes 60-70 EUR-i. (Hind sõltub materjali kulust, töötundidest ja õmblemistehnikast.)

Kirjutage meile julgesti Facebook’i, Instagram’i või võtke ühendust kodulehe kaudu.

Valmistame raamikotte vastavalt teie vajadusele.

HEAD UUT AASTAT!

Meie jaoks on uus aasta alanud põnevalt. Meie esimesed müügitooted on valmis  aprilliks. (Esimiesteks toodeteks on top tube ja poolraamikotid)
Seega uuel hooajal saate kindlasti Bikepacking Estonia varustusega ringi sõita!

Võtsime Gopro kaa metsa kaasa, soovitame 10 euroseid jalgrattakinnitusi kaamerale mitte osta!

TORINO NICE RALLY 2017

ALPS – SALAMI  – BROKEN BIKES – DUSTY TEETH – GRAVEL – SMOKING BRAKES

*Video link below*

So weeks have passed after our this year’s big bikepacking journey in Italy and France and I guess the best time to write down my so called adventure diary, has come. This September we took our butts and bikes and went straight to the Alps. And boy, was that a journey!

The adventure started on September 3rd, when we took our things and my bike (Roland’s bike went to Turin by Shipitwise) and headed to Tallinn airport to fly to Munich and then to Turin. After almost 9 hours chilling in Munich and 1,5 hours of exciting flight over the Alps we finally arrived to Turin. I was really anxious to see if I actually will get my bike or it may have been sent to somewhere in South-America instead. Well, luckily I got my bike and now we just had to hope that Roland’s bike will get there also. So we started to hike to our Airbnb home (which we had for two nights) – we saw one really helpful Italian who literally put us on the bus, which was really crowded but hey, we saved quite some kilometers with it, hiked through the beautiful city of Turin and arrived to our Airbnb home in Turin. There we got some really good homemade pasta and two different cakes which were both amazingly good (or we were just so damn hungry).

IMG_20170904_133228_228

The next day we understood that Roland’s bike had been lost a few days but luckily we got it and Roland hiked to Rivoli and got it – thanks, Ciclocentrico and Valerio! Same time I got to be a real tourist and took quite a long walk in Turin.

Happily brought together with now both our bikes we went to the Torino Nice Rally dinner on Piazza Giambattista Bodoni for some beer and pizza/pasta. We met all the happy faces who were already waiting to get on the road – some the second and some the first time. After the meet-and-greet we headed home to get a good night sleep.

In the morning we headed to Piazza Giambattista Bodoni again to start the route. It was actually really cool to see so many bikers, all so different, but all waiting for new adventures. We made a group photo and then headed to the mountains. The ride through the city was a bit like our own Tour d’ÖÖ but much sportive.

thewholegangTNR

After we got out from the city we headed through tarmac roads and some gravel and then the climbs started. It was really nice riding there – we got to see beautiful little mountain villages, made some stops to see the beauty of landscape and gather our strength. After some time we took a left from the main road and then the main ascent started. I think I have never felt so much pressure on my little feet than on that climb. After a bit I felt that it would be smarter to just push my bike. Roland had some more strength and tried to still ride the climb but when the gravel started, he went to pushing also. So, there we were, pushed our bikes (which were both 20+ kilograms) up from this really cool but really tiring mountain road. After pushing the bikes for quite some hours we got almost to the top – Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli (a catholic church) near Colle del Colombardo. We were tired, hungry and it was already dark and quite cold but what views there were – a moon and stars in the sky, beautiful lights from Condove down below and all those amazing bikers who were there with us. So we put up our tent and went to sleep.

The next day we went up to Colle del Colombardo – made some photos and then started the descent towards Condove. We saw a lot of cows, a lot of sheep, had a flat tire, saw more breathtaking views, put heat on our brakes, poured water on the brakes to cool them down, drank water like horses (actually all those days) and had real fun coming down from up there.

As Roland felt something was not quite right with his bike, we had to re-route a little bit. So we decided to see the little Italian villages on the foot of Alps and go back to the main stradas from Limone. Our little plan changer was really fun. After Condove’s tasty pizza we took nice roads through forests and small villages, almost from some houses backyard, saw beautiful lakes, Lago Grande di Avigliana and Lago Piccolo di Avigliana, got to take singletrack next to the big road, went through a little river between the forest, had certainly some more climbs and after a place called Trana we started to find a camp spot to rest the night.

IMG_20170906_123626

IMG_20170906_145644

The next stop was Cumiana – again an amazing small village where we had breakfast from the local bakery (damn it was good) and watched some cool turtles doing their stuff in the fountain. After the breakfast our day went by more exciting roads between the forests, some more singletrack, some more climbs and therefore some really fun descents. We went through fields of grapes, apples, pears, kiwis, plums and corn and we saw a bit more different landscape next to the Alps. We got to also ride next to quite a big road which wasn’t so nice because there were no lane for bikes nor an area where we could ride by bike. But despite some reckless drivers and dense road we arrived to Saluzzo where we decided to take a hotel room to wash and rest. This evening we also got some thunderstorm and quite a rain so we felt quite pleased that we had chosen a hotel over the tent for this night.

TNRvid2017-11

TNRvid2017-14

TNRvid2017-13

After Saluzzo we hit the road and headed to Cuneo to get a check up in a local bike mechanic shop and see what’s wrong with Roland’s bike and if there was anything to fix. Well, there wasn’t – Roland’s bike rear hub’s left side cone disintegrated and he didn’t get nor a new hub or a new wheel. So after the local mechanic had put some grease and well awaited hope on it we decided to go to Limone Piemonte and see what happens next. On the road we saw more TNR bikers who headed the same way as us. In Limone we knew that if we would go up, we could meet some difficulties so we decided to get over the Alps by bus (trains were cancelled due to some road work in the area) but before that we decided to stay in Limone for one more day to rest. Well, can’t really say a resting day because we took a whole day to hike around the mountains without our bikes (at least the bikes rested) which was also a lot of fun. I could imagine what Limone would be in winter – lots of skiers and winter tourists and lots of snow, like winter wonderland.

IMG_20170909_123842

The bus ride through Alps was mesmerizing – we felt like two fools who were constantly watching out from the window and whispering all the time “Did you see that?” and “Look at those peaks over there!”. The same time all the local people on the bus were either sleeping or in their phones. Well, it was an experience and something what we cannot relate to bus rides here in Estonia (although our landscape has so much beauty and difference). After a couple of hours we arrived to Ventimiglia – a city in northern Italy, Liguria – next to the Mediterranean Sea. This place was so much different from all the earlier cities and villages we had seen. Now we took our bikes again (at the same time we just kept hoping that nothing else happens to Roland’s bike) and after some kilometers we were on the French-Italian border. From this moment, Italy was behind us and new adventures in France awaited.

IMG_20170910_183957

IMG_20170910_194144

It was already evening and we rode through Menton to Monte Carlo and arrived to Monaco in night. Monaco in night was exciting – we got to see the night lights over the city, the happy and sad gamblers on the sidewalk, the harbor with so many expensive yachts and boats, the security guards who did their job very properly, and some good views over Monaco and Monte Carlo. We accidentally even saw Le Palais des Princes de Monaco. The first plan was to ride to Nice but we thought we should have some good rest so we went up from Monaco and took some roads towards the mountains. I think it was about 1 am. and we still had not found any proper place we could stay for the night. I even started thinking that I’ll just put my bike next to the road and sleep on it. Luckily Roland found us a proper place to camp and we got some good sleep after all (somewhere near La Turbie).

TNRvid2017-17

IMG_20170910_223133

We headed towards Nice and went through some climbs and descents to Éze where we had a breakfast and a walk through the little village which was filled with oh how many tourists. Rested a little bit and made some more photos and then the next stop was Nice – Café du Cycliste, which was also a finishing point for the whole Torino Nice Rally route. We got there, met some more bikers along the way, got some really good cappuccino and felt good because we had arrived to Nice! The following few days we stayed at an Airbnb place and enjoyed the life as tourists in Nice.

TNRvid2017-20

So all together, I know that our route was different from this year’s Torino Nice Rally but still we got the mountains and the amazing small villages, we got to see so many different landscapes, rode about 700 km, ate really good pizza, pasta, cheese and meat and drank some really good wine and beer and saw Italy and France in all it’s glory. And we got to ride with so many awesome bikers who we met on the road. That was our Torino Nice Rally 2017 and it was an adventure! Thanks to the organizers and thanks to Roland for planning such a cool journey for us!

Rattaga reisimine on lõbus!

KÕRVEMAA / OANDU-IKLA / 2 DAY TRIP /

Cravel, mud, forest, lonely roads and wild nature. All this is Kõrvemaa nature reserve, a short section from Oandu-Ikla trail.

You can take train from Tallinn to Aegviidu village and start your trip from there. We went to Aegviidu in the evening and spent a night in Nikerjärve campsite, right next to the train station.

I the morning we followed Oandu-Ikla trail from Aeagviidu to Paukjärve camping place. There are two options, one is cycling trail and other is for walking. Walking trail is more fun and technical. Sometimes there is  a wall in front of you and it’s really cool to climb it. Also bring some vodka because your feet is gonna hurt. Cycling trail is more sandy and boring…

So second day we went back to Aegviidu and followed mostly cross-country skiing trails through Kõrvemaa sports centre. From Aegvidu we went south also on Oandu-Ikla train until we reached to Kakerdaja swamp. Actually there was about 50 people in Kakerdaja swamp, so we escaped about 10 kilometers to a more private camping place. But Kakerdaja bog itself is worh to see!

So if you only have a weekend off or couple of days to explore Estonia, then don’t waste your time in Tallinn old town drinking…escape to Kõrvemaa!

DOGPACKING THE ESTONIAN WILDS

DogpackingEstonianWildsBLOG

SAND – KABERNEEME  – PUPPY – SINGLETRACK – TRAIL – BIKEPACKING – BOURBON

*Video link below*

We were lagging behind on our dog trailer build, so we decided to get a simple under the tent tarp that we could use to cover it and go for Lola’s first expedition. The tarp is fully wind and waterproof but mind you, it looks hobo because it’s still only temporary. She will eventually get windows and a cabriolet-mode. But until the required materials arrive, we are exploring the wilderness in this.
It is built on a regular Bob Yak trailer, using floor heating plastic pipes as those are seriously strong and elastic and can take a beating. Everything is made so we can repair with simple tools – zip ties and tape.

This was all prepared in a matter of two days, as we had hoped that the rest of our gear would arrive but as force majeure would have it, it did not. But luckily the weather lords were smiling and gave us a good window to go bikepacking with our puppy. Although the sun shined throughout the whole trip, it was still going to drop to 0 celsius at night and stay at 10 celsius during the day. This was not going to stop us, we even devised a clever little wool sweater for our pupper, one which would hopefully keep her warm even if it starts to get rough.

So, we took off for our adventure with minor lags. Apparently dogs don’t like riding in weird plastic boxes which sway side to side. So we had to overcome the obvious 12 step alcoholics program with Lola, so she could relax eventually. This was done with pure persistence and a few broken nails, but we got there, she even slept for a while in there we think. We think. We hope. But she enjoyed it.

Having planned this trip only a few days before (thanks to the weather), we didn’t know if it was going to be worth it at all and if whether we might even have to come back early for some unknown reason, so we decided that the most important thing on this trip was to focus on getting the setup right for Lola, after all this was a test expedition.

Having made several stops along the way, we finally reached far enough from the tarmac that we could set her free to run alongside us. Now, she is a very small pupper, legs are probably as long as half a banana, so imagine our surprise as she was able to run 15 kilometers beside us on the forest trails whilst holding our normal cruising speed. The little fucker is tough. Of course by the end of the day, and as you can see in the video, she was tired and couldn’t wait to get back home to wrap herself in her fleece blanket she so desperately loves.

As for us, well, to be honest we didn’t actually focus on anything else than making the trip a pleasurable experience for our pupper, so we were left a little confused when we arrived back home. It took us a while to recap everything that we enjoyed, but we did enjoy it. It was just the pure joy of letting someone in on the fun of adventuring on a bike that overwhelmed us which in this case was Lola on her one wheeled Bob Yak DIY puppertroller.

NORTHERN ESTONIA – KLOOGARANNA SINGLETRACK

Kloogaranna2017cover

SAND – KLOOGA – MUD – TALLINN – SINGLETRACK – TRAIL – BIKEPACKING – BEER

*Video link below*

Many Estonians know the trail that rims the northern side of Estonia, along the cliff edges, next to the sea. But all too commonly it is the trail of the cadence bro’s and the “Icanimprovemytimehere” gal’s (no offense though, I love all bikers). Seldomly you can see the rare breed of adventurers who extend a 4 hour rush ride into a full day chilled ride that you can do in uncomfortable clothes with a beer in your hand.

On one sad saturday evening, when the weather was soggy and cold, the Norwegian weather oracles promised a warm and dry sunday. This meant, we could finally officially start our bikepacking season with a heartwarmingly nasty ride from the western coast of Estonia back to our capital, Tallinn. Thus, we rushed to pack stuff at 2 in the morning after which we anxiously awaited the morning train whilst sweat was pearling on our forehead. Atleast one of us got some shut-eye that night.

When morning came, all tiredness and grogginess was gone in an instant – the day loomed to be a perfect day to ride bikes and get lost. And then, boom, we were outside of our apartment, boom, in the train, boom, buying some tickets, boom, squatting selfies like proper Eastern Europeans, boom, Kloogaranna.

The trail that starts from Kloogaranna has it all – cliff edges, mud, swamps, fatbikeworthy sandpits, views, fast trails and even hardcore technical parts which remind me of my biketrials days. The first bit of the trail is the “letmegettoknowyou” part. It unfolds slowly but surely into a sandy chain-killing nightmare once you reach the coastline and from there-on towards Tallinn, it gets muddier and up-and-downsy’er (I think I can coin this as a new word) the more you progress.

My least favorite part of the trail was somewhere around before we made to the middle mark. It was the “no entry” sign territory. And no, it wasn’t any post-soviet remnant military bases that some people might think are still active 30 years after the crumble. No, they were there for the locals. By the locals. Stopping anyone from going to their beach. Which is a shame if you know that you cant actually own a beach in Estonia, you can just limit the access to it. So yeah, fuck you, if you’re reading this and you live there with your one million “no entry” signs.

After we’d passed through the “demilitarised zone”, we arrived in Keila-Joa. This was our marker that from now on, the trails were going to get muddy. And honestly, what can you expect from an early April ride in the upper northern hemisphere.

Most notable part of the trail is the so called “swamplevel”. This is where there’s a peninsula that stretches out to the sea and usually gets submerged  from time to time. This creates a rocky muddy and narrow trail that wrecks your muscles for an hour. But boy if you finish it without falling on your face and dropping a few teeth, it feels good.

Lastly the trail winds up the high cliff at Suurupi where it’s a tired but slow roll towards Tallinn. You get some of the best views of the trail here, overlooking the city with its million lights in the evening sky. Well worth a full day’s ride.
